Words by Matthew Spence:
Every month, there’s at least one celebrity getting their pic pinned for the “Cultures Most Wanted” Pinterest board. Why? A-List “fuck it” moments, that’s why. Crashouts that captured our attention more than that phone call from your job, on your day off, that you ignored.
Crashouts are normal for everyone, but celebrity crashouts are documentation of how to do it right and completely wrong. The list goes on and on just like the beat. We have the king of crash-outs, Ye West, who spreads culture hellshock, factory resets, then does it all over again, groundhog style. Raking in notable crash outs over in the pop world, Chappell Roan exemplifies a Gen Z crash out: avoidable yet reasonable.
Yet one who reigns to pour critical damage with shade is none other than the 2010s biggest “what ifs,” Azealia Banks.
A proven talent and bridge burner, she’s built a reputation beyond music. We all know the classic record “212” that got people to shake ass in a black and white filter, to a star in the landscape in the ever-so-iconic early 2010s. However, if you ask people about her these days, culture has crowned her with a sash that says “Queen of the crash out/terrible person” because she borders that line as thin as a toothpick.
Once Azealia Banks equipped the “ability of clocking and reading,” the spirit of Bishop possessed her; no one is safe.
Uncut, unrated, and unhinged, Azealia’s 15-year career span has raked in more TMZ headlines than musical accolades. Truth be told, fans and casual passersby have gotten more used to expecting online drama than music drops. Early on, there’s probably a bit of tabloid toxicity, enjoyment of seeing her snap at whoever and whatever got in her way that day, week, and month, but as the years fly off the calendar, we are just looped in that San Andreas meme.
“212” might have been a perfect number, cuz most wouldn’t be surprised if this was the number of public spats and feuds she’s had with people online every year. With a new name added to the ever-growing snake of an Op list [Drake has some catching up to do] and another story to add to her Wikipedia page. Well, it’s easy to collapse from intimidation by the mass amount of feuds that can fill up Madison Square Garden and get caught up in the sensationalization of how many people. Stepping aside leads you to wonder, “Am I next?” Who knows? And that’s what I’ve been wanting to know. And in a year’s span, how many feuds can this family have? I decided to take this case head-on in DIY inherent vice style.
The year of our Nostalgia, 2026, has been peaceful, but for how long? … For how long? So I played in the dirt, crunched the numbers, and guesstimated the average of how many we can expect this year and in future years.
Thanks to Azealia Banks Feud Wiki!
Now, I mainly focused on all the musicians’ / music-related issues instead of all of her feuds in totality. Frankly, because if I included everyone, whether it be celebrities, comedians, politicians, etc., this shit would be longer than four seasons of The Simpsons combined. However, I did exclude some musicians that were listed, due to them not really being feuds.
Just her critiquing their music and not personal attacks. Others weren’t even about anything critical, just nothing at all; in fact, some are positive. Now I know that Azealia Banks is a Tate McRae fan.
Ranging from jabs and harsh attacks to malignantly personal. The severity can range from “quick jabs and words exchanged” to full-on “I really don’t like that guy” type of beef.
Notes: I decided not to make note of what is what and which is which because it’s hard to fully measure that type of stuff cuz that is subjective, especially from the other party’s perspective.
I will, however, make note of which is one-sided, with Azealia speaking to no one. Either they didn’t acknowledge her at all, or they didn’t engage with any sort of tension or malice. Two-sided is where both parties are engaged in the situation.
Final note: this isn’t going to be a breakdown piece on each case, nor is it going to necessarily discuss whether she was right or wrong in these situations, or try to invalidate her feelings in totality.
As there are cases, in the mix, where her feelings are reasonable, valid, and warranted of a crash out. So, due to the subject matter, I did make note of the ones that were serious on her part.
